What Makes a High-Quality Vibe-Coded App? A Quality Rubric

"Quality" is easy to nod along to and hard to act on. So here it is made concrete: a rubric of the dimensions that actually decide whether an AI-built app is good, each with a plain criterion for what "pass" looks like. It's the same set of things a serious review checks — and it's deliberately public, because an app you can score is an app you can improve.

The rubric

Eight dimensions. For each, ask the question and be honest about the answer.

  • Correctness — does it work when you leave the happy path? Empty input, wrong input, no network, a double-click.
  • Security — is input validated, are secrets kept out of the code, are access checks in place, are dependencies accounted for?
  • Responsive & mobile — does it hold together down to a small phone, with no sideways scroll and tappable targets?
  • Performance — does it load quickly on a normal connection, with no huge blocking assets?
  • Accessibility — semantic markup, labeled inputs, alt text, keyboard focus, real color contrast?
  • Error handling — do failures produce a clear message and a graceful state, never a blank screen?
  • SEO & metadata — unique title and description, a favicon, social/Open Graph tags, a canonical URL?
  • Code cleanliness — no dead code, no duplication, and absolutely no placeholder content left behind?

How to score yourself

Rate each dimension Pass, Caution, or Fail — and resist the urge to be generous. A single Fail on security or correctness outweighs a row of passes on polish. The point isn't a grade to feel good about; it's a map of what to fix next, in priority order.

An app that looks done and an app that passes the rubric are two different things. The eye test rewards polish; the rubric rewards the parts polish hides.

Why a rubric beats "looks done"

Placeholder text, happy-path-only logic, and swallowed errors all pass a casual glance — that's exactly why they survive to launch. A rubric forces you to check the things your eyes skip. It also makes quality portable: two people can look at the same app and agree on where it stands, which is the foundation for anyone trusting an app they didn't build themselves.

Where Vibe Coder Playground fits: its Due Diligence Audit runs this exact rubric for you — grading correctness, security, mobile, performance, accessibility, error handling, and metadata — and returns one verdict plus a phased, plain-language fix plan. Instead of guessing whether your app is high quality, you get the scorecard, automatically.
