Free QR code generator
Paste a web address and get a QR code for it, in your own colors and with your logo in the middle if you want one. Download it as SVG for print or PNG for everything else. The code holds your address itself. There is no short link of ours in between, so it keeps working for as long as your page does.
This code opens:
What it will refuse, and why
A code a phone cannot read is worse than no code, because you only find out after it is printed. So some choices are refused with a reason instead of being drawn:
- a light code on a dark background. Many phone camera apps only look for dark squares on a light field, so swap the two colors
- two colors that are too close together. The code has to stand at least 4 to 1 against its background, measured the way web contrast is measured
- a logo covering more than 10% of the code. We tested this: past that share, some codes stop reading. The default is 8%
- a logo file over 200 KB, or an SVG logo, since an SVG file can carry a script and this one ends up in a file you hand to a printer
- an address that does not start with https:// or http://, or that has a username or password in it
These are the same rules, in the same words, as the QR codes in the Playground app. The page runs a copy of that code, and a check fails our build if the two ever differ.
What it does not do
- count scans. The code holds your address and nothing else: no tracking tag, no id, no redirect
- check that the page at the address exists. It encodes what you typed, so test the code with your phone before you print a thousand of them
- keep anything. Close the tab and the code is gone unless you downloaded it
Want to know how many visits a printed code brings?
Tracked codes do that, and they live in the Playground for apps on the analytics add-on. A tracked code opens the same page with a campaign tag on the address, and Ad Manager lists the visits from each code. Nothing sits in between, so a printed code still opens your page if the add-on ever lapses. It just stops being counted.
